River Valley Homecoming 2026
River Valley High School is excited to announce that the Class of 2027 has selected "Once Upon a Homecoming" as the theme for Homecoming 2026, which will take place September 21–25.
Students, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to join in a week filled with school spirit, traditions, and community pride. Final details regarding spirit days, special events, and additional Homecoming activities will be announced after the start of the school year and will be published in The Independent and on the River Valley School District website.

(NOTE: There is no school for students on School Fair Day - Friday, September 25, 2026)

School Fair entry forms are due on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, to the children’s respective schools or Shari Graffunder at River Valley High School. Artwork (Department “M” ONLY) and photography are due on Monday, September 21, to the children’s respective schools. The other indoor items (crafts, food, and Legos) are due to the intermediate school gymnasium on Thursday, September 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Judging of submitted entries will start shortly after, and the gym will be closed at 5:15 p.m.

Community members or businesses who would like to display their tractors or implements, please contact River Valley FFA at rvffa@rvschools.org. For community members or businesses interested in sponsoring, participating, or assisting with the various aspects of the fair, please contact Shari Graffunder at sgraffunder@rvschools.org or by phone at 588-2554 ext. 2152.
The School Fair will open at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, with the gymnasium exhibits (in the River Valley Intermediate School gymnasium) and various livestock exhibits showing behind the intermediate school. The livestock auction will start at noon near the School Fair Pavilion (behind the intermediate school). Interested bidders may register starting at 10:00 a.m., with registration closing at 11:30 a.m., as the office staff and clerks need time to prepare items for the auction. Any support is greatly appreciated! Please contact Shari Graffunder if you have suggestions or can sponsor an area of exhibits.

2026 River Valley Homecoming Parade will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026! THEME: "Once Upon a Homecoming" (NOTE: There is no school for students on School Fair Day - Friday, September 25, 2026) River Valley High School is excited to announce that the Class of 2027 has selected "Once Upon a Homecoming" as the theme for Homecoming 2026, which will take place September 21–25. Students, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to join in a week filled with school spirit, traditions, and community pride. Final details regarding spirit days, special events, and additional Homecoming activities will be announced after the start of the school year and will be published in The Independent and on the River Valley School District website. The excitement begins even before Friday's festivities. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during the Homecoming Pep Rally on Thursday, September 24, following the conclusion of the varsity volleyball match between River Valley and Prairie du Chien and the boys varsity soccer match between River Valley and Prairie du Chien. One of the week's most anticipated traditions, the Homecoming Parade, will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25. Local businesses, organizations, clubs, and community groups are encouraged to participate. Those interested in entering a float should contact Brent Johnson beginning September 1 at (608) 588-2554, ext. 2116. To help ensure a safe and enjoyable parade for everyone, the River Valley School District asks that any float distributing candy or other promotional items use "candy walkers" to hand out items rather than throwing them from moving vehicles. The Homecoming celebration continues Friday evening, September 25, as the River Valley Blackhawks host the Platteville Hillmen in the annual Homecoming Football Game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and Blackhawk fans are encouraged to pack the stands and show their school spirit. The celebration concludes with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 26, giving students an opportunity to celebrate another memorable Homecoming week together.
