Ways to Earn College Credits at RVHS

River Valley High School offers numerous courses which can result in college credit or advanced standing at many universities, colleges and/or technical colleges. With the cost of postsecondary education escalating, these courses are excellent opportunities for students to take advantages of financial savings.

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are classes taught with a curriculum that is nationally recognized and audited on an annual basis. At the end of the course, students can take the nationally-normed test and if they score a 3 or better (scale of 1-5) on the test, they will be granted advanced standing or credits for their score. Standing and credits vary at the discretion of each university/college.

Cost: No cost to take the classes, optional AP exam is roughly $99 per exam.
Advantage: Students enter college with readily transferrable college credits.

Students earn both high school credit and technical college credit simultaneously. Technical college grading policies and standards established are followed. Courses require specific grades to earn transcripted credit.

Cost: No cost to the student, but fees may be associated with certain classes.
Advantage: Students enter a program with earned technical college credits which are transferrable to an equivalent technical college program or potential university.

UW-Oshkosh CAPP Credit Agreement
River Valley offers courses through an agreement in conjunction with the University of Oshkosh CAPP Program. This agreement awards transcripted/dual credit for successful completion of designated courses. These courses must be taught by master level high school teachers working with UW Oshkosh faculty and must meet specified criteria on an annual basis. In order for credits to transfer at the university level, students must meet a specific grade requirement set by each institution.
Cost: Optional cost to earn college credits. CAPP courses currently cost $110/credit.
Advantage: Students graduate from high school with college credits which readily transfer to public and private universities. Students get the opportunity to learn about college-level expectations in a familiar high school setting.
